Self-Myelination — The Network That Learns
Current public-DAV authority boundary — 2026-07-12. Pre-launch target design; nothing here proves a live system.
A public-DAV consequence may occur only when at least two natural-person councilors bind the exact consequence in a complete valid bound PRISM decision receipt.
PRISM records and verifies that receipt only; it never serves as council, signatory, authority, or receipt producer.
AI and caste seats stage unsigned proposals only; they never authorize or execute a public-DAV consequence. Constitution or membership adoption establishes constitution and membership only; it does not authorize a later consequence. Policy may constrain an unsigned proposal but never authorizes execution or substitutes for the complete consequence-bound receipt.
Before receipt validity, consequence fails closed to read-only proposal, simulation, or deterministic sandbox; live evidence remains gated_pending_complete_valid_bound_receipt.
Software deterministically carries out only the exact consequence bound to a complete valid bound PRISM decision receipt from at least two natural-person councilors binding that exact consequence.
This page describes the intended adaptive-routing behavior of SPECTRE. Read topology-learning language below as target design unless a narrower runtime proof has explicitly closed the lane.
The Biological Analogy
In the human nervous system, frequently used neural pathways develop a myelin sheath — a fatty insulation layer that increases signal transmission speed by up to 100x. Paths you use grow faster. Paths you don't use atrophy. Damaged paths are pruned.
SPECTRE is designed to do the same thing. Not as metaphor. As mechanism.
How It Works
Every time a SPECTRE node routes a gossip message through a peer and the round succeeds (low latency, no packet loss, honest behavior), the SmallEBM's energy score for that peer would decrease. The peer would become more likely to be selected in future rounds. The Boltzmann selection would amplify the preference. The path "thickens."
Conversely, when a peer fails — high latency, dropped packets, inconsistent reports — the energy score would increase. The peer would be selected less often. The path "thins."
Over thousands of gossip rounds, the network would develop thick, fast, reliable highways between honest, well-connected nodes — and thin, rarely-used links to unreliable or peripheral nodes.
This is myelination: the network grows its own nervous system topology from observed performance.
Three Behavioral Regimes
1. Strengthening (Honest, Reliable Nodes)
Nodes that consistently deliver low-latency, high-success gossip rounds would accumulate low energy scores across their peers. They would become routing hubs — not by declaration, but by earned performance. More traffic would flow through them. They would earn more SPECTRE rewards.
This would create a positive feedback loop: reliable service attracts traffic, traffic generates revenue, revenue funds better infrastructure, better infrastructure improves reliability.
2. Atrophy (Unreliable Nodes)
Nodes with intermittent connectivity, high latency, or frequent timeouts would see their energy scores rise. Peers would route around them. Their traffic would decrease. They would earn less. If they improve, the energy scores recover. If they don't, they fade from the topology without any explicit removal.
In the target design, no node is ever "kicked out" of SPECTRE. Unreliable nodes simply receive less traffic, naturally and continuously, until they either improve or become irrelevant.
3. Quarantine (Malicious Nodes)
Nodes detected by the immune system (cross-report variance, triangle inequality violation, P-score collapse) would receive maximum energy scores. The Boltzmann selection would make them effectively unreachable — not by a ban list, but by making every honest node independently prefer any alternative.
Quarantine is emergent, not imposed. No central authority would decide to quarantine a node. Every node's SmallEBM would independently learn to avoid the bad actor. The quarantine is the CONSENSUS of independent routing decisions.
Convergence Properties
- Bootstrap phase (0-1000 rounds): High temperature, near-random selection, rapid exploration
- Learning phase (1000-10000 rounds): Temperature annealing, topology differentiation begins
- Steady state (10000+ rounds): Stable myelinated highways, low-energy core, high-energy periphery
- Adaptation (continuous): New nodes join as high-energy, prove themselves, earn myelination. Failed nodes lose myelination. The topology is never static.
Why This Can't Be Gamed
To gain myelination, a node must ACTUALLY deliver low-latency, high-success gossip over sustained periods. There is no shortcut. You cannot fake latency (it's measured by the receiving peer). You cannot fake success rate (it's measured by the receiving peer). You cannot fake reputation (it's computed from cross-reports across multiple independent peers).
The only way to earn a thick myelin sheath is to be genuinely useful to the network. This is the myelination moat: 12 months of learned topology cannot be replicated by a cold-start competitor.
The Nervous System Is the Moat
Traditional networks have static routing tables or centralized load balancers. SPECTRE's routing is alive — continuously adapting, continuously learning, continuously hardening its best paths. The longer the network runs, the better it is designed to get. Time is meant to become a competitive advantage.

Current public-DAV boundary — 2026-07-10. Pre-launch target design; nothing here is live. The active DAV is public and targets PRISM, with no K2 runtime, launch, genesis/bootstrap, or fallback dependency. Consequential authority requires at least two natural-person councilors; AI/caste seats stage unsigned proposals only. Before quorum, behavior fails closed to read-only/proposal, simulation, or deterministic sandbox, and a live decision receipt remains gated pending quorum.
