The Phi-Split — 61.8% / 38.2%

The Ratio

Every unit of revenue the organism collects is split:

  • 61.8% to LP-100 stakers (equity holders who govern and sustain the organism)
  • 38.2% to operations (agents, infrastructure, development, Buy Wall)

The ratio is the golden ratio truncated to one decimal: phi = 1.618..., and 1/phi = 0.618. The complement is 1 - 0.618 = 0.382. This is not aesthetic. It is game-theoretic.

Why Golden Ratio

Nash Equilibrium

A Nash equilibrium exists when no player can improve their outcome by unilaterally changing strategy. The phi-split achieves this between two competing interests:

LP-100 holders want maximum distribution. If they could vote to increase their share to 80%, they would — but at 80%, operational funding collapses, the organism degrades, revenue falls, and their 80% of a smaller number is worth less than 61.8% of the current number.

Operations want maximum budget. If operators could vote to increase their share to 60%, they would — but at 60%, LP returns become uncompetitive, stakers exit, liquidity drains, and the organism cannot sustain its NAV floor.

At 61.8/38.2, neither side can improve unilaterally. LPs receive enough to justify staking. Operations receive enough to sustain and grow the organism. The equilibrium is self-enforcing: any deviation makes the deviating party worse off.

Biological Precedent

The golden ratio appears in biological resource allocation because it minimizes competition between adjacent structures. Sunflower seed spirals, leaf phyllotaxis, and bronchial branching all follow golden-ratio spacing because it maximizes packing efficiency while minimizing self-shadowing.

The phi-split is the financial equivalent: it maximizes the organism's total resource utilization while minimizing the conflict between consumption (operations) and accumulation (LP returns).

The Buy Wall

A portion of the 38.2% operational share funds the Buy Wall — a standing bid on the SKY market. The Buy Wall provides:

  1. Floor price support: SKY holders know there is always a bid below the current price.
  2. Anti-death-spiral: In a selloff, the Buy Wall absorbs selling pressure, preventing cascading liquidations.
  3. Countercyclical accumulation: When SKY price drops, the Buy Wall buys more units per dollar, increasing the organism's treasury per unit of expenditure.

The Buy Wall is not a guarantee of price. It is a guarantee of demand. The difference matters: a price guarantee is a liability. A demand guarantee is a buffer.

Why Not Governance-Adjustable

Many protocols make their fee split a governance parameter. This creates a permanent attack surface:

  1. LP-heavy governance votes to increase LP share. Operations starve. Organism degrades.
  2. Operator-heavy governance votes to increase operational share. LPs exit. Liquidity drains.
  3. Both sides engage in perpetual governance warfare, consuming energy that should go to building.

The phi-split is not a parameter. It is a constant. It cannot be changed by governance vote, by admin key, by emergency action, or by any mechanism. It is written into the protocol the same way K0 (receipts) and K4 (Grace Exit) are written in: as a kernel invariant.

No governance fight. No treasury raids. No fee-switch proposals. The ratio is set. Build the organism.

The Math

For the system to be stable, LP returns must exceed the risk-free rate (otherwise stakers exit) and operational funding must exceed minimum viable operation (otherwise the organism dies).

Let R = total revenue. LP return = 0.618R / total_staked. Operational budget = 0.382R.

The equilibrium holds when:

  • 0.618R / total_staked > risk_free_rate (LPs stay)
  • 0.382R > minimum_operational_cost (organism survives)

Both conditions are satisfied when R exceeds a minimum threshold. Below that threshold, the organism is in metabolic deficit — which triggers the dissolution pathway (see 73-dissolution). The phi-split does not prevent death. It prevents extraction.
